Robert Lawrie
Robert Lawrie is a barrister specialising in civil litigation. He works in all of the civil fields covered by BCL Burton Copeland, with an emphasis on commercial fraud and HM Revenue & Customs investigations. Robert is a specialist advocate and civil litigator, with a strong background in civil procedure and costs issues.
Prior to joining BCL in 2007, Robert completed his pupillage at Cloisters chambers and was a member of chambers at Farrar’s Building for 3 years. As a practising barrister, he had a busy workload that involved all aspects of civil work ranging from commercial and company law to insolvency, employment, negligence and personal injury. Over the past 4 years, Robert has gained a very substantial amount of court experience appearing regularly in courts at all levels, in addition to advisory work in non-contentious matters.
Robert has experience of European commercial and employment law and of international humanitarian law. In 2006, he worked in a Parisian employment law firm and, in 2007, he worked in the defence section of the UN-backed Khmer Rouge tribunal in Cambodia where, in addition to preparing for the trials, he conducted training for victims and local journalists. While at Bar school, he won a bilingual (French and English) international competition in the field of European law.
Robert speaks fluent French and basic Spanish. He is a member of Inner Temple and belongs to the Human Rights Lawyers’ Society and the Franco-British Lawyers’ Association.
