Emma Hoskin

Emma Hoskin specialises in criminal litigation with an emphasis on complex fraud and regulatory defence work.

Emma joined BCL Burton Copeland in 2007 after 6 years on the prosecution side.  New Zealand qualified, Emma was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in September 2000 after obtaining a first class honours degree in law.  She began working as a New Zealand Crown prosecutor in October 2000, regularly appearing in court on behalf of the Crown and government departments on a range of criminal and regulatory prosecutions.  Emma conducted jury trials as sole prosecution counsel from 2001 and has regularly prosecuted all types of criminal offending, encompassing fraud, violence, sexual, and drug offending.  From mid 2003, Emma spent 18 months working for the Crown Prosecution Service in London in the Central Confiscation Branch, focusing on the restraint and confiscation of criminal proceeds, before returning to New Zealand to further her experience as a prosecutor in the criminal courts.

Emma is in her seventh year post-admission and has a strong background in advocacy and criminal litigation.  Since joining BCL, she has been involved in preparing complex fraud cases and advising clients facing prosecution by the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Services Authority, HM Revenue & Customs and the police.

Emma is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and is a member of the New Zealand and Auckland District Law Societies.  She is a member of the Young Fraud Lawyers’ Association.
